A foundation laid in 1854
On October 14, 1854, a dedicated group of Norfolk Masons formally assembled, united by a shared purpose to establish a new Lodge. This pivotal moment marked the earnest beginnings of Atlantic Lodge No. 2, setting the stage for a century and a half of fraternal service and community engagement.
Brotherhood through adversity
During the tumultuous period of April 3–8, 1864, the Lodge entered a state of "refreshment." This was not for idleness, but to provide a safe and appropriate venue for visiting Masonic Federal Soldiers to meet in peace amidst the wartime strife. This act stands as a powerful testament to our commitment to brotherhood, transcending conflict.
A beacon in the community
Atlantic Lodge's public spirit was vividly demonstrated in 1894 when its members proudly participated in the laying of the cornerstone for Epworth Church. This act symbolized our enduring dedication to civic duty and our role as a pillar of strength and support within the Norfolk community.
